Multimedia system comprises of system level aspects that underpin digital media, including multimedia networks, wireless communication, middleware, signal processing, signal video and image compression and distributed system. Interactive Digital Multimedia involves a range of technologies and applications centered on the creation, encoding, transmission, storage, presentation, and analysis of multimedia data, as well as the study of human interaction with multimedia systems. There are numerous applications of interactive multimedia in learning, communication, medicine, arts and entertainment, and other areas. A multidisciplinary approach is essential to adequately prepare future generations of educators, researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in this broad environment.
The convergence of digital media, computing and communication has created new and exciting opportunities in science, engineering and the arts. Interactive digital multimedia involves a range of technologies and applications centered on creation, encoding, transmission, storage, presentation and analysis of multimedia data, as well as the study of human interaction with multimedia systems. Currently the retrieval of massive multimedia data brought in technical challenge in terms of its retrieval and other related aspects. In this context the subject of Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) plays a major role.
Image and video storage and retrieval continues to be one of the most exciting and fastest-growing research areas in the field of multimedia technology. However, opportunities for the exchange of ideas between different groups of researchers, and between researchers and potential users of image/video retrieval systems, are still limited. The International Conference on Content Based Image Retrieval (ICCBIR-2008) is intended to expose the state of the art in multi media database and image retrieval between researchers and practitioners throughout the world. This conference aims to provide an international forum for the discussion of challenges in the fields of multi media database and image retrieval.
ICCBIR-2008 is seeking original high quality submissions addressing innovative research in the broad field of multi media database and image retrieval. A unique feature of the conference is the high level of participation from practitioners. Applications papers and presentations suitable for a wide audience are therefore particularly welcome.
Themes of interest include but are not limited to:
- Multimedia content for representation and analysis of multimedia information, creation, analysis and manipulation
- Content/Semantic -based indexing, search, and retrieval of images & videos
- Advanced descriptors and similarity metrics for images, audio and video
- Learning and relevance feedback in image/video retrieval
- 3D images and models
- Fusion of multimedia
- Image/video summarization and visualization
- Query models, paradigms, and languages for image/video retrieval
- Database architectures for image/video retrieval
- Novel image data management systems and applications
