M Tech Program off to a flying start at PESIT

M Tech courses in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering were inaugurated at PES Institute of Technology on Monday, August 21.
Vijay Anand, Vice-President, Sun Microsystems and Managing Director, Sun India Engineering Centre was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Anand said, “We are now in an age of sharing and participation. Software development, especially, is no longer a domain where producer - consumer roles are strictly delineated. Innovations in Open Source technology have made it possible for consumers to be actively involved in developing and innovating technologies.” He further made mention of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) planned between Sun Microsystems and PESIT. "This MoU is in line with Sun’s vision to involve itself more closely with innovators and developers in other industries and in universities," he explained.

Guest of Honour, Dr B R Satyan, Joint Director, Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), spoke on the importance of M Tech aspirants to become “Engineers’ Engineers”. To achieve this, Dr Satyan listed four qualities that are required of students: never stop learning, aim at the simplest and most elegant solutions, look out for avenues for continuous improvement and have a multi-disciplinary outlook as technologies are coalescing.

On the occasion, an MoU between PESIT and Global Edge Software Ltd, Bangalore, was formally signed. Among other things, the MoU enables the setting up of a Centre of Excellence at PESIT by Global Edge.

Dr K N B Murthy, Principal, PESIT, delivered the Presidential address. He emphasized on the ‘quality cycle’ in PESIT that ensures the growth of the institute. “Good faculty and students give us good results, good results ensure good placements, which in turn ensure good quality,” he explained. He expressed pleasure about the fact that despite having launched the M Tech courses nearly five years later than what was planned; PESIT was the first choice of students during the PGCET counseling.
